NEW VERSION as of 10/30/02 -- if you have already installed Metagrams, get the new version here and replace it over your current mgce.app file.

Metagrams CE is a Windows CE based program, currently compiled for palm sized computers (NOT Palm Pilots).

It is similar to "Video Flashcards". It allows you to study special lists of words on the road!

Currently I do NOT have an easy installation program (due to a bug with the one I am using) but it is very easy to install never-the-less.

1. You need to download and install the Pocket C runtime CAB files. These are free and are necessary to run Metagrams. You can get them here. Look towards the bottom of the page for the "Download for PocketC Software Users" section. Save this file on your desktop and then run it, it should self-install onto your CE unit. (You will need a Zip utility to open this file... if you need one go to www.windows95.com and do a search for ZIP, there are many free versions available.)

2. Download the Metagrams CE application and save it to your desktop. You can get it here. If you have problems saving it, try clicking the link with the right mouse button.

3. Open up Microsoft ActiveSync and select the menu option File/Explore. When the "Mobile Device" window opens up, click on "Program Files". Hit the right mouse button and select "New Folder". Create a folder named "Metagrams". Once the folder is created, click on the Metagrams folder and enter it. Now drag and drop the application you saved on your desktop (it should be named "mgce.app") into that folder.

4. Now, the only tricky part... Keeping the Metagrams folder above open, hit the right mouse button on the "mgce.app" file and select "Create Shortcut". Once the shortcut appears, hit the right mouse button on it and select "cut". Next, click the back arrow TWICE and then select the folder marked "Windows", and then select the folder marked "Start Menu". Once you are there, hit the right mouse button again and select "Paste SHORTCUT" (make sure you choose Paste SHORTCUT and not just Paste or you will copy the program which is not what you want!).

5. Ok, the only thing left that you need are some word files! Click here to bring up a list of available files. Click the right mouse button on the ones you are interested in and save them on your desktop. Once you have all of the files you are interested in, go back to the "Program Files/Metagrams" folder you created and drag the files into that folder.

6. Your all set! If you go to your start menu you should now be able to run the application. Once it loads, select "New List" from the File menu and you should see a list of all of the word files you just downloaded appear. Click on one with the stylus and then click the OK link to load it.
